Car accidents are one of the leading causes of death in teenagers between the age of 14 and 20. Many factors contribute to teen driving deaths include lack of experience, distracted driving (i.e., texting and driving), speeding, aggressive driving, not using seat belts, driving while drowsy, drunk driving, drug use and “dare-devil” activities like racing and/or weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), people ages 15-24 represent only 14% of the U.S. population. However, they account for 30% ($19 billion) of the total costs of motor vehicle injuries among males and 28% ($7 billion) of the total costs of motor vehicle injuries among females.
